I’m deeply sad to announce the end of one line. On 1st December this year, my wife, Jill Carol Kahn, born Rich (1955 Bristol) succumbed to cancer, a brain tumour which arrived insidiously and progressed alarmingly quickly. She was a young 67 years old. Yesterday she was interred at a secular natural woodland burial site aptly named Birdsong, near Alford in Lincolnshire, where in a few years’ time I too will be laid to rest, next to her beneath a dedicated rowan tree.
For various reasons (and no excuses) in some ways I lost heart with this blog. It became neglected yet again. I had other preoccupations. So the time has arrived for me to cancel my ancestry membership, close the archives and leave the work to younger, and perhaps more resilient, minds. My son Nigel will be taking over immediately. He and his wife Sam have spent years researching the family tree and they have made huge contributions to our reservoir of knowledge about the Kahn line. Having recently become a grandfather for the first time, he’s ideally placed to begin to open new chapters of discovery.
From now on son – all this is yours, such as it is. I hope relatives (no matter how distant, whether in the offing or beyond the horizon)) will continue to support this family blog and feed us information to help support the cause of self-knowledge.
And so from me… farewell. And thanks for all the phish…
Alan Kahn

Dear Alan, I am so sorry to hear the news about your wife. I thank you for all you have done on this blog and for your kind correspondences. I am so grateful to your wife for her transcription of the Aunty Hetty tapes. Much love to you this Christmas x
Hi Alan
This has been a magnificent construction, reaching back in time to an incredible extent.
We all owe you greatly. So pleased to hear that Nigel is taking over the baton – even if he is a West Ham supporter. I hope that we will occasionally see more contributions from you, exercising your literary skills.
Your cousin,
David
So sorry to hear about your wife.
My father David passed on this posting to me. Thanks for all you have done and very sorry to hear the sad news.
Sincere condolences.
